An original dish from Backacker's Pantry. Nothing like a hot, fresh baked dessert in the backcountry. Unlike most of their other dishes, this one requires a skillet and lid to bake the cobbler mix, but the extra effort and equipment is well worth it!
This meal requires a bit more effort than most of our meals. You will need a medium sized pan with a lid to prepare this dish. Simply add one cup water to the freeze-dried apples and sauce mix and sauté over medium in a medium skillet, until the mix comes to a boil. Then reduce heat and let simmer for five minutes. Meanwhile, mix the cobbler mix with three tablespoons of water. When the sauce has thickened, spoon the cobbler mix over the top of the apples, cover and cook for a minute or two, using low heat. Voila! Turn off heat, remove cover, and wait a couple of minutes, if possible, so as to avoid scorching your taste buds. You have a fresh baked Hot Apple Cobbler to enjoy.
