4 Active Winter Events in Winnipeg Next Week

After making it through our standard late-January cold snap, Winnipeg's forecast now is calling for clear skies and single-digit temperatures into next week - the perfect weather for a slew of active winter events taking place from February 9th-15th!

The Jack Frost Challenge

Sign up a team of 1-5 people, then skate, bike, ski, snowshoe, walk or run a combined total of 130 human-powered kilometers from Saturday, February 9th to Friday, February 15th.  It doesn't matter where you're going, or for how long.  Walk to work.  Bike to the grocery store.  Ski to the movies!  However you rack up the distance, every team that makes the 130km goal will be entered to win great prizes.

The Ice Donkey Adventure Challenge

Winnipeg's Ice Donkey Winter Adventure is 5km like no other, letting you run, slide, crawl and dig in winter inspired obstacles. This Sunday, February 10th participate as teams of any size or solo in this winter running/obstacle style event through winter inspired obstacles and challenges. Compete against others, challenge yourself, or work as a team for ultimate abominable domination.  Registration closes tomorrow, February 8th at midnight... so sign up for this one fast if you want to participate.

Winter Bike to Work Day

One great way to rack up some of your Jack Frost distance is to participate in Winnipeg's Winter Bike to Work Day!  Winter biking has taken Winnipeg by storm this year.  Whether you're a fat tire expert, or just looking to give cold weather cycling a first try, Friday, February 15th is Winter Bike to Work Day in Winnipeg. Register ahead of time for great prizes!

Ice it to Work Day

Friday, February 15th is going to be a busy one - it's also the second annual Ice it to Work day!  Join other participants on Winnipeg's River Trail to skate, ski, snowshoe, bike, run or walk to work.  No registration is required - but the first 100 communters to stop by any of the river pit stops will receive prizes, and the Green Action Centre and Peg City Car Co-op’s Pit Stop at the base of the Osborne Bridge will be giving away free hot chocolate.

The best thing about these events?  They're non-exclusive!  Tackle the first 5 km of your Jack Frost Challenge at Sunday's Ice Donkey event, then skate, bike, ski, snowshoe, walk or run during the week before finishing with Bike to Work on Friday the 15th as part of Ice it to Work Day along the river trail, while rounding out the last of your team's 130 kilometers.  Sorted!
