You're Invited to the Wilderness Supply Wishlist Event

“Don’t worry. You don’t have to get me anything”

Someone on your list hard to buy for?  Or maybe you're the one with picky (er... discerning!) taste in gifts.  If your boyfriend doesn’t know the difference between a kayak and canoe paddle or your wife always buys the wrong coloured sweater, our wish list event is for YOU!

Joins us for an evening of pre-holiday window shopping at your local Wilderness Supply store, guaranteed to help the right gear find its way under your tree.

Much on some delicious holiday treats as you browse our store full of outdoor gift ideas. Our friendly Wilderness Supply elves will be on hand to answer any questions and help you create the gear list of your dreams, complete with all your colour and sizing preferences.

You get a copy to take home and stick on the fridge, and we keep a copy in our store – Send your hapless gift buyers around to one of our locations, and we’ll point them in the right direction!

  • 911 - Use this option only in the event of a life threatening emergency. The Emergency Response Center will notify the appropriate emergency responders, which may include coast guard, police, search and rescue teams or even your country's embassy. Primary and secondary emergency numbers that you pre-program into SPOT will also be contacted. Please note that There is no test mode. Once activated, the response center will treat your situation as a real emergency.
  • HELP - this option can be used in a non life threatening situation to notify your friends and family that you need help or assistance in a specific location. 911 and HELP can be activated simultaneously.
  • OK - use this feature to let your friends and family know your location and that everything is okay. A message will be sent with a web link of your position using Google Maps.CUSTOM - Choose a secondary message to send to family and friends
  • TRACK PROGRESS - send a waypoint to SPOT every 10 minutes so your family and friends can follow your progress in real time using Google Maps. Track progress feature requires SPOT premium upgrade service and is not covered under the basic subscription.

How does spot work?

  • Once activated, SPOT messenger's onboard GPS chip will determine your exact coordinates and relay this information to the SPOT satellite system.
  • SPOT satellites relay your message to specific satellite antennas around the world, which in turn route your message and location to the appropriate network.
  • Your pre-programmed message is delivered via text message, email or emergency notification.

SPOT is powered by Google Maps. When an email or text message is sent via the SPOT system, it includes your exact GPS coordinates and a web link to view your location on Google Maps.

Kokatat, SealLine, Northwater Win Sea Kayaker Magazine's 2013 Readers' Choice Awards

Every year, Sea Kayaker Magazine asks readers to vote for their favourite paddlesport gear and accessories in order to award their 'Reader's Choice' awards.  2013s winners have just been announced, and we are not surprised to see some of our favourite products gaining recognition and accolades!

Best PFD - Kokatat MsFit

"A PFD should have three things going for it: it should keep you afloat, carry your essential safety gear and be comfortable enough that you're happy to have it on.  The MsFit Tour has these bases covered"

With contoured panels and 6 adjustment points, the MsFit fits comfortable and securely while providing maximum freedom of movement.  Originally designed specifically for female paddlers, the MsFit soon became a favourite for men and women alike in our store - and it in previous years it has won both 'Best Women's PFD' and 'Best PFD' overall in the Sea Kayaker Magazine poll.

Best Dry Bag - SealLine Baja Bag

"By choosing the SealLine Baja for the best dry bag, our readers put durability at the top of the list for important qualities"

With their 19 oz. vinyl sides and a heavy-duty 30 oz. bottom, it's true the SealLine Baja can withstand just about any abuse Mother Nature--or your crew--can dish out.  The dry seal roll-top closure will keep your gear dry whatever you get up to, and feature an attached D-ring for securing inside your boat or on top of a luggage rack.

Best Tow System - Northwater Sea Tec

"The Sea Tec Tow Line is a repeat winner as the Readers Choice for the best towing system, and with good reason...over the years the bag voted best by our readers has only gotten better"

Featuring a wide-mounthed bag with plenty of room to swallow up handfuls of line, the Sea Tec Tow Line pays out without fuss and packs back quickly and easily.  When filled, roll and velcro the bag into a compact package not much wider than its attached waist belt.

Best Drysuit - Kokatat Meridian

"I feel right at home in my Meridian.  I'll be wearing it for years to come."

The Meridian is Kokatat's most popular drysuit, made with 3.21oz GORE-TEX® Pro Shell fabric with Cordura® seat and knee reinforcement panels.  The entry zipper is covered with a protective flap, and the waist overskirt overlays your spray skirt tunnel for a more watertight seal.  The relief zipper and GORE-TEX socks are much appreciated essentials that help make this drysuit a paddler favourite.

The Meridian is available in men's and women's custom sizes, providing your choice of colours and the perfect fit.

To see the full 'Reader's Choice' list, get your December 2013 copy of Sea Kayaker Magazine in print or online.
