Day Hike Packing Checklist

- Trip plan left with someone back home
- Map
- Compass
- Flashlight / Headlamp with spare batteries
- Lighter / firestarter
- Matches in a waterproof container
- First Aid kit
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Knife or multitool
- Emergency contact device (Cell, satellite phone, SPOT)
- Any necessary permits
Clothing
- Hiking boots or shoes
- Gaiters
- Wool socks and liners
- Base layers
- Hiking pants / shorts
- Short sleeved shirt (not cotton)
- Long sleeved shirt (for bugs/sun)
- Insulation appropriate for the weather (At least a midlayer, possibly toque, mitts, jacket)
- Underwear
- Sun Hat
- Bandana
- Rainwear
- Watch
Food
- Snacks
- Water bottle
- Water treatment
- Garbage bag(s)
Camping Gear
- Backpack with rain cover or liner
